Nacho Monreal has revealed how he watches other football matches in order to learn from other teams.

The leftback, who has been nothing short of a revelation the last few seasons at Arsenal, admitted that although there are some games he does just enjoy relaxing and watching, others he’ll study in order to pick up tips.

Speaking to Arsenal Player recently, the Spaniard claims that he tries to watch other players, coaches and styles of play in order to hone his own talents.

“There are games you just watch for entertainment, you forget everything else and you just try to be a football fan,” Monreal said.

“But there are many games with different coaches, tactics and styles of play. So you keep an eye on the movement of the players, on the tactics, and how the team regroups – you try to take it in and learn.”

Since signing for Arsenal in 2012, Monreal has made 140 appearances in all competitions and has probably become one of the first names on the team sheet. He’s developed into one of our most solid defenders and although he does occasionally have a slightly off game, these are few and far between.

With this in mind, somehow I don’t think he really needs to be learning off other players. Though, it’s great to have stars that want to continue to develop. As long as he continues what he’s doing, I’m sure he’ll be just fine.
