Stories flooded the internet on Thursday afternoon claiming that Lucas Perez is out for six weeks after doing his ankle ligaments against Reading.

Or, should I say, having them done for him.

The news that he will be out for six weeks has come from one source – Eduardo Fdez-Abascal, a journalist for IBTimesUK and Diarios. I know nothing about him so cannot possibly say if he is reliable, or isn’t.

That’s not really the point.

The point is, this is the sole source of the information.

It’s quite feasible that Lucas will be out for that long. He was hit hard by that Reading lump and had to be substituted because of it, while the player went unpunished for what was an awful ‘tackle’.

But we don’t know.

It might even be that Arsenal don’t know either because these sorts of injuries usually need a few days before they can be properly diagnosed as they wait for swelling to subside.

So. Lucas has not been ruled out for six weeks. A journalist has said he’s heard that Lucas will be out for six weeks.

That might seem like the same thing, but it’s not.

Let’s just wait and see what Arsenal say, shall we? Or, at the very least, a second, independent source.
