There was also a rare start for 19-year-old goalkeeper Ryan Huddart at current side Eastleigh in the National League, and he kept his first clean sheet since arriving for pre-season in July on a season-long loan.

Creative midfielder Jon Toral was again not involved in the matchday squad for Granada in La Liga. They were held to a goalless draw with Sporting Gijon.

Glen Kamara is patiently waiting for his opportunity, again left on the substitutes’ bench as Colchester United squandered a lead twice to share points with Morecambe in League 2.

Kelechi Nwakali played just under half-an-hour for MVV Maastricht during their 2-1 victory over FC Utrecht’s second-string side. Tafari Moore completed the full 90 minutes at right-back for Utrecht, whilst defensive counterpart Stefan O’Connor remained an unused substitute.

As covered, Takuma Asano started and played for 70 minutes during VfB Stuttgart’s 2-1 win over 1860 Munich.

Joel Campbell came off the substitutes’ bench for Sporting and scored a well-taken 90th minute equaliser to save Jorge Jesus’ blushes at home against Tondela in a 1-1 draw.

Jack Wilshere played the full 90 minutes for Bournemouth against Tottenham.

Calum Chambers was unable to play for Middlesbrough due to Premier League rules banning players from facing their parent clubs.

Wojciech Szczesny (Roma) and Julio Pleguezuelo (Mallorca) are amongst the players who could potentially feature in Sunday’s fixtures.
