Alex Iwobi revealed to Copa90 recently that his greatest Arsenal moment so far was starting against Barcelona in the Champions League last season.

The forward has gone from strength to strength since being promoted to the first team and is now a regular starter. However, looking back, he still recognises the day where Arsene Wenger put his trust in him away to Barcelona as his best moment.

“My best moment was definitely starting against Barcelona, that was mad,” he told Copa90.

“It was such an experience. I’m young, it was my first proper start. I wasn’t even nervous, just bare excited to play.

“Obviously it’s a nice feeling that Arsene Wenger trusts me, it gives you an extra confidence boost.

“To play in a game of such magnitude, I was buzzing. The fact that I kept playing a couple of games afterwards showed that he had faith in me.”

Although Iwobi had shown glimmers of brilliance during pre-season and cup games, Wenger starting him away against the Catalan giants really showed everyone how capable he was. Since then, he hasn’t looked back and  this season he’s already bagged himself three assists in all competitions.

If the 20-year-old continues developing while keeping a level head on his shoulders, you can only imagine the heights he could reach. It’s reassuring to see a product of our academy – a Gunner through and through – flourishing at the top level.
