Alex Iwobi has revealed the not so warm and friendly side of fan support (if you could call most Gooners ‘warm and friendly’).

According to the forward, an over-zealous fan followed him in his car after Arsenal’s last home game. The 21-year-old, who only broke into the first team properly at the end of last season due to injuries to senior players, admitted to being a bit scared as he tried to lose the supporter.

“There’s been a lot of crazy things,” Iwobi said to Arsenal’s podcast.

“The last home game we played, I was driving, baring in mind I know there’s a lot of traffic but you do weave in and out, but for 15 minutes there was one fan following me and I was getting a bit scared.

“I was getting close to my destination thinking ‘I’m going to have to do a detour just to get to the destination before he finds out where I’m going’, but yes that was a bit mad.”

As nothing came of the incident and Alex obviously can see the funny side, there’s no harm done, but sometimes what can seem like a bit of fun or excitement to a fan, can actually be pretty unnerving for the person who’s being followed.

Hopefully, this kind of thing doesn’t happen again. I’m sure the players don’t mind meeting fans but following them in their car takes it a little bit far. You’re not just putting yourself and the player in danger but other road users as well.
