Ivan Gazidis has become the second highest paid football executive in the Premier League behind Manchester United’s Ed Woodward.

The chief has reportedly been given a bonus of £1m a year, according to the Daily Mail, who claim that these facts are available in to see in our club accounts sent out to all shareholders.

Gazidis apparently now takes home a salary of £2.648m (very specific), which puts him just below Woodward, who they say earns around £3m.

The bonus comes despite us not winning the Premier League for over a decade and is bound to set more tongues wagging over the club’s priorities.

We did spend around £100m on new players this summer so we can’t exactly be accused of not spending anymore. However, I can understand why to many this news is pretty unwelcome considering that extra £1m is a lot of money.

Ultimately, as fans, we have pretty limited information about what goes on behind the scenes. We don’t know how big a hand Gazidis has in the running of the club and whether this has increased, hence the bonus. All we know is what they allow us to see.
