Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed that Theo Walcott apologised to him in the dressing room after missing two glorious chances seal his own hattrick and register a much-needed assist for the Ox.

Speaking on Goals on Sunday, where he appeared alongside his father, the Ox was presented with his stats from his time at Arsenal which didn’t make for great reading.

Running through the highlights of the match, the two efforts which Theo missed (one that hit the post and rolled along the line and the other which he put over the bar) had been expertly set up by Oxalde-Chamberlain.

“It just got there, to be fair,” the Ox said about his first pass to Theo which ended up rolling along the goalline. “I wanted a little bit further in front of him but in the end he made it into a good opportunity for himself.

“At the time I was thinking, obviously, when a teammate misses you always think well, he should have given it to me. He’s on a hattrick, you’ve got no complaints.

“[For the second] I just put my head down and ran.

“I felt like I had the legs on him and I did in the end and it was just a case of if I could give Theo his hattrick but he didn’t want to do either.

“It would have been nice for him to get a hattrick.

“He came and said sorry to me in the dressing room, I should have had a few assists.”

The Ox has registered just one assist so far this season in all competitions across a total of 211 minutes played.

He has completed 90 minutes just once – in the EFL Cup game against Nottingham Forest
