Granit Xhaka won Arsenal’s Goal of the Month for his long-range net-rattler against Hull and he claims he’s proud of the nickname he’s earned as a result.

Although we were already winning 3-1 against Hull, in the final minute, our new midfielder decided to hit it and hope. The hope paid off and he scored a beautiful goal.

Speaking to Arsenal Player recently after winning our club’s Goal of the Month award, the 24-year-old was informed of his new nickname and he admitted although he doesn’t 100% get it, he’s proud of it.

“That’s really special, Xhakaboom,” the midfielder said.

“I don’t know where the ‘boom’ comes from, maybe it’s because of my shots. To have a nickname like that so early on makes me proud.”

If new players perform with the passion and desire we’ve seen from Xhaka, they worm their way into Gooners’ hearts very quickly and the Switzerland international has done just that. Hopefully, he’ll continue to make starts, smash in amazing goals when he can and generally be proud of his time with us.

It’s good to see the new boy settling in so well.
