Chuba Akpom looks like he will be sidelined until 2017 with a stress fracture injury in his back that will keep him out of the Arsenal side.

Akpom revealed that he was ‘gutted’ over sustaining a back injury in late September but since then we’ve received very little in the way of news. Although, whenever you hear ‘back injury’ it doesn’t exactly fill you with hope.

According to Jack Pitt-Brooke from the Independent, it’s not looking good as Akpom is set to not return to action until next year. Apparently, the young England international could have a stress fracture in his back. Oh dear.

It was all going so well!

Akpom had a brilliant pre-season with Arsenal, scoring against the MLS Allstars, Chivas, Viking FK and Manchester City. Although he didn’t have a spot in the Premier League, he started against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup and created a goal. Plus, in Premier League 2 in just two starts he scored three and assisted one.

Alex Iwobi even tipped him to be the next youth player to break into the first team.

Hopefully, he has a speedy recovery but knowing Arsenal players, it’s hard to be optimistic.
