Arsenal are reportedly back scouting Mario Lemina, a player they allegedly offered €16m for during the summer transfer window.

The latest reports stem from Italy with Calciomercato speculating about the player’s future with their information coming from Tuttosport, and they believe that Arsenal could be back to ‘tempt’ Juventus when the January window opens.

A defensive midfielder, it would seem an odd move from the club who have already purchased Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka in the last two windows, after refusing to reinfoce that position for years.

Lemina can, however, also play in central midfield and at right-back, a versatility that might appeal to Arsene Wenger in light of Carl Jenkinson being out until November and Mathieu Debuchy being, well, Mathieu Debuchy.

The player is under contract until 2020 and €20m has been a consistent figure throughout the course of these rumours.

At the end of August, Lemina said of the reported Arsenal offer, “Arsenal? I do not know, [you have to] ask Juventus.

“There were a lot of offers but this is not what interests me the most. What interested me the most was what Juventus would say, the project that they would offer me.

“Today, they really wanted me to be a major player on the team and I grew up with them.”

Lemina, 23, has six Serie A appearances this season, but is likely to lose his spot in the starting XI when Claudio Marchisio returns to fitness.
