Despite reportedly snubbing Chelsea before Antonio Conte was appointed manager, Diego Simeone apparently wants a move to the Premier League.

The Atletico Madrid boss reduced his contract with the La Liga club earlier this season, taking it from 2020 to 2018. This leaves him with just 18 months.

Naturally, he was linked with the Arsenal job straight away, despite reportedly turning down Chelsea previously, because Arsene Wenger is out of contract at the end of the season and was heavily linked with the England job.

Now it appears as if Gareth Southgate will take over the Three Lions full-time but no one knows whether this means Wenger will stay at Arsenal or not.

Does Simeone want Arsenal?

The Mirror claims that Simeone wants to move to the Premier League to play against big managers like Jurgen Klopp, Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola.

Interestingly, Wenger isn’t mentioned.

I realise that this could be because a) there’s no truth to the rumour and b) Simeone doesn’t see Wenger as huge opposition. I find option B hard to believe and A far more likely.

But let’s explore option C, shall we? That he wouldn’t be playing against Wenger because he’d be taking over from him.

Who else would he joined? The only other option is Chelsea, he supposedly turned down not long ago.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I do think that Simeone is a logical candidate and Wenger could extend his contract by one year before he takes over.

But, as I always say, I could be very wrong.

According to the Sun, Ladbrokes have slashed odds on Simeone coming to the Premier League before the end of 2017 to 6/4. Arsenal are 5/1 favourites.
