Alex Iwobi is expected to be nominated for the Africa Player of the Year award and former Nigeria coach, Sunday Oliseh, thinks he could win it.

Now a consultant with FIFA, Oliseh managed the Super Eagles for one year between 2015 and 2016 after spells with Vervietois as coach and Eupen as sports director.

A former player who represented a number of teams, including RFC Liege, Reggiani, FC Koln, Ajax, Juventues, Borussia Dortmund and Genk, Oliseh took to Twitter after Arsenal’s game against Burnley on Sunday.

Even after watching the Arsenal youngster endure what must surely rank as one of his toughest matches, Oliseh said

Yes, of course, he is a ‘potential’ if he’s nominated, but as we discussed at the time when it was revealed that he would be on the list, it is pure nonsense to suggest that he should win it.

I’m not saying he won’t deserve to win it in the future, but now? Total silliness.

That won’t stop me laughing for a week should he get the nod ahead of the Chelsea, Manchester City and Leicester men who are also likely to be included in the nominations, but at this point, the only way Iwobi will win it is if they open it up to Arsenal twitter for them to vote on it.

If they do, no-one will be able to stop him.
