Mohamed Elneny came in for a lot of criticism for his pairing with Francis Coquelin in last week’s draw against Boro, but the Egyptian really stepped things up this week against Sunderland.

There were loud groans from Arsenal fans when they saw the duo reunited in the middle of the pitch, although Arsene Wenger had little choice with Xhaka still suspended, Cazorla injured and Ramsey just fit enough for the bench after missing the entire season since the opening day.

Elneny didn’t disappoint.

He was Arsenal’s most influential player as the StatsZone graphic below shows:

He completed 94% of his 97 passes:

Elneny also put in two crosses, played six long balls, all of them accurate, and made one key pass.

He won 100% of his aerial duels, had more touches than any other player on the pitch (108), made two interceptions and put in one tackle.

Not a bad day at the office for Elneny at all.
