Granit Xhaka has admitted that he is taking English lessons because he understands ‘nothing at all’ when people talk.

Explaining that he will go to lessons once a week as he doesn’t remember what he was taught as a child, he added, “If people just start talking there, I understand nothing at all.”

It’s safe to say that Xhaka has made a positive impression in his limited time in England with Arsenal. Taking just 24 minutes to pick up a yellow card, he was asked by the interviewer about his disciplinary record. “Well, I got just 24 minutes in the Premier League [before] my first yellow card. [I was] caught already, the referees do not wait until someone has broken a foot. And I was informed.”

Asked what he had been informed about, he replied, “In that they immediately give yellow in the Premier League from this season when talking back to the referee. So I’m talking no longer talking the same with the referee.

“Perhaps that is because of the language. I’m curious to see how it is when I master it properly.”

His comments came as part of a larger interview with Berner Oberlander and you can read the bulk of it here with some other quotes about hanging up on Arsene Wenger here.
