Harry Arter has publicly admitted his surprise in seeing Jack Wilshere join Bournemouth on deadline day, but is also glad that the Cherries have “one of the top midfielders in the world” in their ranks for the current campaign.

Wilshere reportedly rejected moves from a number of European sides to join Eddie Howe’s team on the south Coast in a season-long loan move and although his first start for the club ended in defeat this weekend, Arter has publicly backed the England international to play an important role in Bournemouth’s season as they look to avoid second-season syndrome and a potential relegation battle in the latter months of the season.

As quoted by the Bournemouth Daily Echo, Arter said the following:

“It was a surprise seeing Jack come in. When he is fit I think he is one of the top midfielders in the world, I honestly do. I think he is an unbelievable footballer – for him to be at Bournemouth is great for everyone.

“It is great for the supporters, great for the players and I believe he will take us onto the next level.”

The 26-year-old midfielder has been with Bournemouth for six years and, having made over 200 club appearances, has warned Jack – two years his junior – that he’ll have to fight for his place on a regular basis.

“I don’t think anyone has lost their place to a player because they have thrown the towel in.

“Everyone has worked so hard to be here.”
