Theo Walcott has admitted that perhaps one of his biggest downfalls has been thinking about others first instead of himself and he believes this needs to change.

The forward’s form has steadily returned back to something resembling its best this season, particularly over the past couple of games. In fact, in six Premier League starts, he’s scored three goals and assisted once. This is just two off what he netted (and assisted) last season and we’re not even a third of a way through yet.

Speaking to the media ahead of Arsenal’s midweek Champions League clash against Basel, Walcott admitted that something’s definitely changed in the way he approaches football now.

“I spoke to many people and it maybe woke up something in my system, I don’t know,” the 27-year-old tried to explain, as reported by Arsenal’s official website.

“I am completely different. I just want to be better and better, people have had so much faith in me and I tend to think I need to repay people.

“But I also think I need to do it for myself now. Maybe in the past I was thinking about others and not myself, [but now I want to] get that balance right, to switch back and forth about when to do the right thing.

“At the moment things are great, I am enjoying life and enjoying football. There are always ups and downs, I have been through many of them but for now it is going well.”

Having another proven goalscorer in the squad boosted Arsenal’s chances of winning the League according to Sports Betting Dime who have them at 12/1. However, with the likes of Sergio Aguero also firing on all cylinders for Manchester City, it’ll still be a tough battle.

Hopefully, Walcott can continue being selfish, eh?
