With Arsene Wenger confirming that he has turned down approaches from PSG on three occasions to stay at the club, it was only a matter of time before stories of other clubs approaching him started to emerge.

It’s no secret that Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, France and England have all tried to lure the manager away from the Emirates, but he has always stayed loyal to the Gunners where he was building a club rather than just assembling a squad.

A report in Le Parisien is now claiming that Wenger was approached by Bayern Munich and Real Madrid at the same time as PSG three seasons ago.

Bayern ended up appointing Pep Guardiola, PSG, Laurent Blanc, and Real Madrid, Carlo Ancellotti, who was leaving PSG and whom the Paris club had wanted Wenger to replace.

It might almost have been worth it just to see Mourinho’s face when Wenger replaced him in Spain. Almost.

It’s hard to imagine Wenger managing any other club and he is likely to do what Ferguson did when he finished at United – simply stop managing altogether.

Then again, Wenger doesn’t have a wife to whom he’s made promises about leaving.

Ferguson always said that he hung up his watch as he’d promised his wife, Cathy, that he would do so so they could spend more time together.

Whatever the reasons for Wenger’s divorce, this no longer seems to be an issue for him.

Retirement, however, is nowhere in his near future, with Robert Pires telling the media in France that Wenger will stay at Arsenal for as long as the chairman wants him.

So. That’s forever then.

Good to know.
