Aaron Ramsey may be out of action until after the first Champions League game of the season but according to the boss, who was speaking in this weekend’s matchday programme, he is ‘in a good way.’

This is the first real update we’ve had since the midfielder picked up his injury against Liverpool on the first day of the season and we were told he’d be out until after the international break. Given his problems with the upper leg, any delays are naturally concerning.

Wenger also hinted that Alexis would be benched for the game on Saturday afternoon.

“At the time of writing, I haven’t seen Alexis or David Ospina, because they arrived late on Thursday night. Everyone else looks alright though. Alex Iwobi is back in training, and the only one who’s not ready is Aaron Ramsey. He’s in a good way, but will not be completely ready for today or Tuesday.

“Moving on to today’s game, we are all determined to come back with a performance like the one we produced at Watford before the break.

“International windows are a little bit of a problem. I have to deal with the interruption of our competition and analyse how everybody comes back, what kind of intensity they had to cope with and the fact as well that we play again on Tuesday too.

“So certainly for some players, four games in 10 days, plus the travelling, is not really feasible at the top level. That’s why you have a strong squad and I will focus on the players who could prepare properly for the game.”
