It was a controversial decision to pick David Ospina over Petr Cech for Arsenal’s Champions League clash against PSG but one that ultimately paid off.

Within the first minute, the Ligue 1 club had scored their one and only goal but, to be honest, although Ospina was caught flat-footed and off guard, so were the rest of the team. He couldn’t be personally blamed at all.

Other than this goal, Arsenal didn’t concede and Ospina was the main reason for this.

In the 67th minute, the Colombian had grown in confidence and came out, making a brilliant tackle to deny a second PSG goal from Serge Aurier. Seconds later he made another to keep prevent Cavani’s brace.

A third crucial save and it became apparent that Ospina was our Man of the Match.

Ultimately, the goalkeeper showed up on the day. He knew he would be under the microscope since he’s been played in favour of Petr Cech and he gave everything he had, even putting his body on the line to keep Arsenal in the tie.

Although obviously Arsenal needed Alexis’ goal in the second half to earn the point, if it hadn’t been for Ospina, that goal wouldn’t have mattered.

To be fair, his passing out could be a lot better. He only had a completion rate of 70% according to Who Scored, which, for a goalkeeper who only makes a handful of passes a game, isn’t very good at all.

However, ultimately, the bloke did good and the decision to play him over our first choice goalkeeper proved to be a good one.

My only concern is that every time Ospina has a good game, everyone starts to come up with stats about how great Arsenal are with him in the side. No matter how decent Ospina is, he’s no Petr Cech.
