Although Alex Iwobi’s performances for Arsenal are still a little rough around the edges, his display against Hull was hugely exciting.

The Nigeria international was Arsenal’s highest scoring player on Who Scored, with a rating of 8.6 – the second best was Theo Walcott with 7.9 – and it’s of no real surprise to anyone who watched the game. He got two assists, which means he’s got in three Premier League appearances, and never stopped working.

The forward’s pass success rate was at 89%; he made 65 passes, 58 of which were accurate, and three were ‘key passes’. He also made two tackles.

The most encouraging aspect of Iwobi’s performance, however, was his hunger. The Gunners netted two goals because he forced the issue and had a shot – he was constantly looking to score, even when we were already ahead.

As you can see from his heatmap, although he was concentrated on that left hand side, he made moves all over Hull’s final third.

It’s a shame he didn’t get to actually score himself, considering he was frustrated that he didn’t against PSG either, but he’ll get there. At the moment, he’s doing enough to keep his place in the starting XI and considering he only broke into it last season, there’s no need to worry.

This isn’t to say that his performance was perfect. As fantastic as it is that he wants to get forward, he does need to make sure he tracks back and doesn’t leave Nacho Monreal lumped with all the hard work. This didn’t happen all the time but it happened enough to notice. This isn’t really concerning though, he’s only 20, these traits should develop with time.

Overall, another huge performance from the youngster and proof that he’s exactly where he needs to be. It’s so exciting to get to witness a young talent blossom and hopefully this is only the beginning for young Iwobi.
