As expected, Manchester City defeated Chelsea 2-0 on Sunday and were crowned champions for the first time.

There is a remote chance that Arsenal could make the runners-up spot, if the team can make-up eight points on Chelsea in three games.

This is unlikely to happen and as mentioned by Alex Scott on twitter:

The way I see it, some players will be playing for a new contract or simply to stay at the club. There is no doubt that some of the new signings have not performed to the expected level, one of them has not even set foot on the pitch in an official game.

Let’s hope the club will have a very thorough post-mortem on the 2016 season.

At the end of the day, everything must be done so that the same mistakes are not repeated next season.

As it has been a poor season with the regards to the club’s investment in infrastructure and players, the responsibilities must be determined. There is no doubt that they are shared between the coaching staff and the players.

The coaching staff takes the lead and the players are supposed to perform once they cross the white line.

Back in 2015, in his first full season in charge, Pedro Losa ended up with a team short of players due to many post-World Cup injuries and this year, it has been the opposite with too many players in the squad.

Hopefully, it will be third time lucky next season and the squad will be the right size. I would not be surprised to see at least four or five players depart the club, with as many one or two players coming in.

Also by September 2017, I would certainly hope that current u17 World Cup players like Lotte Wubben-Moy and Taylor Hinds will be integrated to the first team squad. Other development team players should get a chance as well.

The spring series will give the club the time to evaluate the needs for the forthcoming season and launch a proper title challenge as Manchester City have raised the bar this season and Arsenal Ladies cannot really get left behind again like they did when Liverpool won the 2013 and 2014 titles.

Here’s to the 2017/18 season and hopefully it will bring back the winning feeling in the League that has disappeared since 2012.
