Lucas Perez may have arrived as a striker shorn of the world-class tag that many Arsenal fans wanted to see this summer, but he looks like he could well be a very shrewd bit of business in what was a crazy window.

Arriving off the back of his best ever season, he’s just hitting his prime and brings with him pace and an ability to finish that has been lacking in some of our forwards over recent years.

Not only that, he seems absolutely delighted to be at the club, and with the service that will be coming his way from Arsenal’s merry band of magical midfielders, he could well top last season.

No pressure, of course.

Speaking to the media in Spain as he said goodbye to the fans of the club that offered him a seven-year deal to get him to say, Lucas is saying all the right things.

“When a team like Arsenal reaches for you, very few people can say no. Playing in the Champions League was always a dream. It’s a very good farewell.

“For me it is a very important step in my career, to go to an important team that has bet a lot on me.”

“Nobody on the street told me anything other than appreciation. I say that Arsenal has won fans with my signing… It’s a good deal for everyone.”

We agree, Lucas. We agree.
