It was a frustrating debut for Calum Chambers as he was unable to stop Middlesbrough from succumbing to a 2-1 home defeat against Tottenham in one of Saturday’s 3pm kick-off’s.

He started on the right-side of central defence alongside Ben Gibson, and would’ve been frustrated that he couldn’t do better to deny Son Heung-min’s early opener.

After the South Korean weaved his way into the area, Chambers himself was among a few Boro players who were beaten too easily and caught flat-footed as he himself tried to shift the forward away from goal.

Chambers (no.25) would've been frustrated that he couldn't get tighter to, and eventually dispossess Son Heung-Min before the forward took his chance.

Heung-min doubled the lead in fabulous fashion later on in the first-half with a piece of individual brilliance but collectively the Boro backline were sloppy and caught ball-watching, which was ultimately punished.

Ben Gibson’s downward header into the bottom corner helped lift the supporters as Middlesbrough went in search of an all-important equaliser, which unfortunately didn’t arrive for them in time to snatch a point at the Riverside.

Chambers will be hoping for better defensive displays to come, but in spite of the result, his individual performance wasn’t a bad one by any means. He made four tackles, five interceptions and eight clearances throughout as the 21-year-old was afforded the full 90 minutes. However, he’ll be eagerly anticipating more senior action in the coming weeks after making his debut this weekend.
