AllAfrica.com are claiming that Alex Iwobi will be one of four Nigerians that will be nominated for the Confederation of Africa Footballer of the Year.

Alongside Iwobi, the website also expects Manchester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, Chelsea’s John Obi Mikel and Leicester City’s Ahmed Musa to complete the quartet.

The full list of nominees will be released in two weeks and the award will be given out in 2017.

The current holder is Borussia Dortmund and Gabon’s Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, and as much as I would love to see Iwobi pick up an award, it’s crazy to think that he’s in with a shout this year.

Next year, however, should he continue on his current path, will be a completely different story.

Iwobi has three assists in six games this season on the back of two goals and three assists for the senior side last season (plus another two goals and two assists in the league for the u21s and the UEFA Youth League).
