Alex Iwobi insists that although he’s taking his run in the Arsenal senior team as it comes, he’s not fazed by the opponents he’s having to face along the way.

The 20-year-old, who was launched into the first team last season when both Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain picked up injuries, appears to have a good head on his shoulders. This means that, despite his inexperience, he’s slowly building up more and more game time, even starting against PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday night and almost scoring twice.

“I had the chance to score, but my main focus was to get it on target and also beat the goalkeeper, but it was a good save and I was unfortunate not to get the goal,” he said to Arsenal Player following the 1-1 draw.

“The first chance I had I thought I was going to score [too], but I was just lucky Alexis put it away and I was just happy we were able to get a goal and come back into the game.”

Any forward of his age would be grateful just to make an appearance in such a huge European match but instead Iwobi was frustrated not to score.

“I treat it game by game, like in the under-23s,” he continued.

“I take it as it comes and I try to do the best I can. I’m not really fazed by the opponents, I just try to do my thing and try to go for the win.

“I think we performed very well and we got a good point. We fought back and we were able to get a point, we weren’t able to get the second goal which we should have got. I should have got it to be fair, but we were a little bit unlucky.”

If the Nigeria international continues in this manner, I’m sure he’ll only develop further and the shots he was having on Tuesday night will start to go in. He’s an exciting player to watch.
