According to news in Belgium, Standard Liége striker Ishak Belfodil has been attracting the interest of some top European clubs – including Serie A champions Juventus, Chelsea and Arsenal.

So who is he?

The 24-year-old Algerian forward had featured for a handful of clubs across Italy as well as Lyon in France before completing his latest move to Belgium.

Described as someone with “huge potential” by one of his coaches, comparisons were made between himself and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a teenager. Despite this though, he was unable to crack on and fulfil the potential he’d shown in flashes over the past few seasons as chances and goals were often hard to come by.

Liége have signed him on a one-year contract deal, with the added option for another year – and he’ll be aiming to improve his goalscoring tally from last season.

Scoring 11 and assisting five more in the UAE Gulf League, it’s clear he knows a move back to Europe is the most beneficial path for his development, especially if he’s to attract clubs of a high calibre such as Arsenal again in the future.
