Alex Iwobi seems to have overtaken Mesut Ozil on assists so far this year but does this mean he’s stolen the playmaker’s crown?

Iwobi has five assists so far in 2016. Three of these have been during this season already (two Premier League, one Champions League). Ozil, on the other hand, has assisted none this season and only three in 2016, according to the Daily Star. He has scored one though.

Ozil is known for being the king of assists, not just at Arsenal but in the Premier League in general. Hell, he’s known as one of the best no.10s in Europe.

However, this season, he’s found it hard to really get started. He’s still been brilliant but there’s something missing. He’s getting in the right positions to score though, which is an improvement.

Iwobi is only 20 and has his whole career ahead of him but it’s important to remember he’s a different type of player. He plays in a different position and has a different style. While he’s talented and it’s fun to compare stats between him and Mesut in a light-hearted manner, it’s probably not wise to take them too seriously.

Ozil is on another level to most footballers.
