Serge Gnabry was publicly praised by his new manager, Viktor Skripnik, having played the full 90 against Augsburg on his debut and netting a thunderbolt this weekend during their 4-1 defeat against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The talented 21-year-old, who left Arsenal on transfer deadline day, is eager to prove his worth and knuckle down with regular first-team minutes his aim this season.

As quoted by the club’s official website, Skripnik had the following to say about Gnabry after his previous display against Augsburg:

“He trained for the first time [last] Thursday and played on Sunday as if he has been a part of the team for years. That really pleased me – you can see that he is a really talented player. But I’m sure that he still has a lot of room for improvement.”

Gnabry himself said that his new team-mates have helped him to settle into surroundings from the offset, and have “been very accommodating”, which made him feel “comfortable from the very beginning” following his move.

They’ll be hoping for better performances as a team in the weeks ahead as Bremen currently sit at the bottom of the Bundesliga table with three games played – no points and only 2 goals scored, in comparison to a whopping 12 conceded already this term.

As a result of their poor start to the season, Skripnik was then sacked with immediate effect.

Alexander Nouri will replace him as caretaker manager.
