After rumours that Alexandre Lacazette was about to sign a new contract with a €70m release clause it seems the player has realised that he’s not Gonzalo Higuain and that nobody is likely to pay that sort of money for him and he’ll be stuck at Lyon for the duration of the new deal.

That’s according to Le10Sport in France, at least, and we can’t say they have the most stellar of reputations when it comes to breaking news.

Anyway, the story claims he’s happy enough with the wages, which would amount to around £100k a week (who wouldn’t be?) but the clause is simply too much.

Given that Lyon struggled seemed to get anyone to pay half that in the summer, he’s not wrong.

You’d also think that Lacazette must surely be approaching the end of his current Lyon deal given the way it’s talked about in the press, but you’d be wrong.

He still has another three years to go.

He has six goals in three games this season after Lyon allegedly rejected a €40m offer from West Ham during the summer.

A reported Arsenal bid was a big harder to nail down in turns of legitimacy.
