Bournemouth boss, Eddie Howe, has revealed that although he wants to get Jack Wilshere playing full matches as soon as possible, there’s a delicate balance and he doesn’t want to rush him.

Wilshere has been plagued with injuries during the latter stages of his Arsenal career. We know that better than anyone. So, while I can understand that we want the midfielder to be getting regular playing time while on loan with the Cherries, I can totally understand why Howe is being cautious.

“With the outstanding quality he has, there’s no doubt [that we want him to start],” he said to Sky Sports News.

“We’d like to see him in the team as quickly as possible.

“It’s a delicate balance between rushing him into the team and the long term. We have to think of that. We want him to play a lot of games for us so we’ll put him in when we think it’s right.”

After just playing one game for Bournemouth, Wilshere had a scan on his ankle and although he’s already back in training, it’s a reminder than he needs to be eased into first team football.

Howe seems to understand this and it’s good that he’s not just using Wilshere as a means to an end. Looking after his long-term fitness – as well as avoiding injury now – is paramount.

Hopefully, it all works out.
