Hector Bellerin has encouraged David Ospina to learn from Petr Cech.

The Colombian replaced the former Chelsea goalkeeper in the starting XI when Arsenal faced PSG on Tuesday and put in a brilliant performance. Of course, Arsene Wenger took the opportunity post-match to state (coughgloatcough) the fact that he’s always claimed we have two world class ‘keepers at the club. Now, Bellerin has agreed, saying we’re lucky to have them both.

“As a defender you still have the pressure that you can make mistakes, even though you are confident the ball has to go past one of these world-class goalkeepers,” the right-back said to Arsenal Player.

“You still have that kind of pressure, but for example when you see a striker go one v one against the goalkeeper, you feel much safer when you have one of them in goal.

“That’s what you want as a world-class team, because you never know if there is going to be injuries and there is always going to be rotation as there are so many games in the year. We’re really lucky to have both goalkeepers that we have, and whenever they are called upon they give 100 per cent.

“We are really lucky to have [Petr], and David had a great year before he came. It is good for David to learn from a goalkeeper like Petr because he has loads of experience. David still has a long career [to come], and right now I think it is great because that competition is going to make him get better.”

While Ospina did put in a good performance on Tuesday, I’m still tentative about using the phrase ‘world class’. No one can argue that he’s a great shot-stopper and always has been. However, his handling of the ball and sometimes Almunia-esque decision making still make most Gooners, myself included, a little nervous when he’s between the sticks.

If he can learn from Cech and learn to improve the aspects of his game that he’s not so good at, of course this can only be a good thing. To have two world class goalkeepers would be amazing.
