In this current day and age, weekly wages for footballers is always a topical debate.

Some will argue that large wages are warranted, considering the hard work they put in on the training pitches during the week – whilst other traditionalists will counter by saying more important jobs (police, firefighters, doctors) aren’t given the necessary credit.

At Arsenal, players’ wages are not ridiculously high but equally some of the players’ weekly pay packets can be questioned in comparison to their other team-mates.

The highest earners include Alexis Sánchez and Mesut Özil, who both earn 140k-a-week.

In comparison to say, Theo Walcott on 110k, they deserve a more lucrative weekly wage.

Laurent Koscielny has established himself as Arsenal’s best and most reliable central defender over the past few seasons and yet, his wage packet doesn’t reflect that. He’s on 70k-a-week, which is seen as relatively low in modern day terms.

Nacho Monreal (65k), Mohamed Elneny and new signing Lucas Perez (both 40k) are just a few examples of the first-team players with modest wage packets – whilst Mathieu Debuchy (70k) and the aforementioned Walcott receive high amounts of money every week yet the latter is frustratingly inconsistent whilst Debuchy only featured on seven occasions for Arsenal last season.

With a number of key players’ contracts potentially up for renewal, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a wage increase for the more consistent performers in the first-team squad.
