Granit Xhaka has decided to remain a Swiss player after he was invited to declare for Kosovo following their ratification by FIFA according to Albanian reports.

Ragip Xhaka, Granit’s father, told the press that both his sons would stay with the countries they currently represent, meaning that Taulant will stay with Albania.

Xhaka Snr admitted there had been regular talks with the Kosovo Football Federation including the president, Fadil Vokrri, deputy Bekim Haxhiu and selector Albert Bunjaku over the issue of Granit but that that it is impossible as FIFA will not allow ‘such a thing’.

We’re not entirely sure this is correct as it was our understanding that FIFA would give special dispensation due to the ‘newness’ of Kosovo’s status, but are also aware that Granit’s dad probably knows more about his son’s situation than we do.

Either way, he’s staying Swiss.
