Arsene Wenger hailed Riyad Mahrez’s performance last season after the winger decided to sign a new deal with Leicester City on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old finally put pen to paper and signed on with the Foxes until 2020. The chances of Arsenal, who had been linked with the winger for weeks, actually signing him were slim to none and I don’t think there were many Gooners who genuinely thought it would come to pass.

Still, Wenger was asked about Mahrez at his pre-Leicester City press conference, which was to be expected. He was typically vague, merely complimenting the player for his previous season and refused to talk about ‘individual players’.

After Arsenal beat Leicester twice last season and were the only team to do so, the Foxes will be out for revenge on Saturday. With several of the Gunners’ players still out it’s certainly more than possible, although Leicester also lost their opening game of the Premier League to Hull last weekend.
