The latest news on the Shkodran Mustafi transfer saga is that Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal’s interest in the centre-back but according to Guillem Balague, Valencia don’t want to sell.

As we previously reported, Wenger apparently told French TV station, SFR Sport, that Mustafi is just one of the transfer targets that Arsenal are after at the moment and negotiations are ongoing. However, he also admitted that we’re finding it hard to find other people… okay then.

“Mustafi? We hope it will be done. He is one of a number of players we are looking at,” report the Daily Mail.

“We are struggling to find the players we need, but we must be responsible.

“Mustafi is one of a number of players we are looking at, but, yes, negotiations are ongoing.”

The problem is, Spanish football ‘expert’, Guillem Balague, is now claiming via Sky that Valencia don’t want to sell Mustafi and his release clause is €50m – a monstrous amount for a defender, no matter how highly he’s rated.

If Wenger says we’re in negotiations with the La Liga club over the German, I’m sure we are. If Valencia don’t want to let him go and we have to stump up €50m to trigger his release clause in order to get him, surely they wouldn’t have entered into talks with us?

The amount we’re supposed to be paying is creeping higher and higher but this is most likely just the media preying on the fact that Arsenal fans are anxious to get this done.
