Wednesday was full of the usual fun – I mean that sarcastically, of course – and some news.

We kicked off the day in the best possible way: with Arsene Wenger making a dig at Spurs. That’s right, even the boss can’t pass up an opportunity to poke fun at that lot down the road. Wenger also said that he regrets last season and feels guilt over the way it panned out. In another interview, he spoke about his future at Arsenal and confirmed what we always suspected: him extending his contract depends on how we do this season.

Thierry Henry had his say on where he reckons Jose Mourinho should play new Manchester United signing, Paul Pogba, while Jose made another dig at Arsenal and Liverpool because he’s obsessed. We also found out that the former Chelsea boss is the first manager to spend over £1bn on transfers… colour me shocked.

Alex Iwobi spoke about playing for Nigeria and seems confident that they’ll qualify for the World Cup; Liverpool’s Emre Can wore Mesut Ozil’s hat; Lyon’s chairman, Jean-Michel Aulas, told PSG ‘enough is enough’ when it comes to their spending; Josephine Hemming featured for Germany in the Olympics; Wenger claims that there was ‘very good news’ regarding a recent scan on Welbz’s injury and hallelujah, Ozil, Giroud and Kos are back in training!

Now, let’s get onto the not-so-factual stuff.

A big story on Wednesday was an exclusive (lol) in the Sun, which claimed that Wenger is willing to spend big on either Robert Lewandowski or Antoine Griezmann. Never say never but…

At the opposite end of the spectrum was the story that Arsenal want to sign Wilfried Bony from Manchester City, because apparently all we’re good for is our rivals’ flops now.

Meanwhile, there were reports that West Ham had bid €50m for our buddy Lacazette but these were quickly shut down.

The German media seem insistent on Mesut Ozil returning to Real Madrid – don’t sweat, it won’t happen; Chelsea now want Icardi (who doesn’t at this point?) but he’s reported to be having talks with Napoli; Draxler is still being linked with PSG and Daddy Isco said that his son wants to stay at Real Madrid.

Galatasaray were involved in a couple of Arsenal-related stories with them confirming that they’ve made a bid for one of our targets, Manchester City’s Jason Denayer, and also pulling out of the Debuchy deal. Sigh.

Mustafi talks are apparently well underway but it appears that Mahrez is definitely staying with Leicester. Despite initial reports that we’d made a £35m bid, these were swiftly shut down and a meeting between the player’s agent and the Foxes which took place appears to have resulted in Mahrez agreeing to stay. Double sigh.
