Theo Walcott claims that he’s now happy to move out right to the wing for Arsenal permanently but is it all too little too late?

Theo seems to have a real issue with not knowing where he plays. He’s tried playing out wide on the right, which he had some success in given his blistering pace. However, his inability to hold into the ball and cross let him down. He moved into the centre and played as striker, which he also had brief success in before becoming inconsistent at finding the back of the net. Consistently inconsistent.

Now, it appears to be Theo’s last chance to make a name for himself at Arsenal. He’s 27 – a forward’s ‘prime’ age, yet he appears to be moving backwards. With that in mind, he’s clearly willing to play wherever Arsene Wenger will put him.

“I want to make my position on the right – that’s where I know where I am now. I’ve told the manager that I want to be known for playing on the right again, although I can play up front,” he said.

“I want to know where I want to play. The manager has said I can play up front. It depends on what game it is. I know I can do a job up front as well as on the right.”

There was talk of Theo being sold this summer but it appears that Arsene Wenger is willing to give him another go. Probably because Danny Welbeck is injured for the foreseeable future.

Is there too much water under the bridge for Theo to really get a real run in the first team in order to prove he’s good enough? Will simply agreeing to move out wide permanently be enough for him to improve substantially? Is all this pointless because he’ll get injured within the first month?

We’ll have to see.
