Arsene Wenger has given injury updates ahead of our Premier League opener against Liverpool on Sunday.

The boss reiterated that Gabriel would be out for six-to-eight weeks and that the ankle problem isn’t as bad as they first thought.

He also confirmed that Jack Wilshere wouldn’t be ready for Sunday, following his knee problem and Carl Jenkinson is on course to return in November.

Meanwhile, Per Mertesacker has to be completely off his feet for three weeks and is still estimated to be out for four or five months.

Interestingly, Wenger revealed that there is ‘good news’ about Danny Welbeck following a recent scan and that he will be out for about the same amount of time as Per.

“We had very good news on Danny’s latest scan and Per is at the moment off his feet for three weeks, so of course if is a bit boring for him,” Wenger said.

“He is with his family in Hannover, but on the football front he is very frustrated. We think it will be four to five months for both players.”

This still means that we could be without Welbeck for five months, which is a huge amount of time for any footballer to be sidelined, especially off the back of the former Manchester United striker’s previous injury, but we can only deal with what we’ve got.
