Sporting Lisbon have reportedly reignited their interested in Joel Campbell.

The Portuguese club apparently tried to sign him last summer and obviously failed. Their boss, Jorge Jesus, has had his eye on the Costa Rican since he was manager of Benfica and, according to O Jogo, it seems he’s still eager to sign him.

The below tweets are from 2015, when Sporting first really noticed Campbell and then when they wanted to sign him. Of course, it’s all speculation but it makes sense.

Campbell is a bit of a mystery to me. Or should I say, Campbell’s position at Arsenal is a bit of a mystery to me. When Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain both managed to lose their legs in that embarrassing loss in the cup to Sheffield Wednesday last season, he came in and was fantastically energetic.

After spending years out on loan at Lorient, Betis, Olympiakos and Villarreal after we signed him in 2011, it was obvious he had a point to prove.

He went on to score three goals and provide three assists. Not groundbreaking but he was far from the car crash that I think some Gooners had expected. Plus, his work rate was brilliant.

Joel wasn’t even in the squad to face Liverpool and you do have to wonder what plans Arsene Wenger has for him. If any.
