Saturday was full of post-match comments from Arsene Wenger and the players following our 8-0 win over Viking FK but of course there was still the usual amount of shady gossip doing the rounds.

While the blokes were beating Viking FK 8-0 on Friday night, the Arsenal Ladies were progressing to the semi-finals of the Continental Cup. An 89th-minute penalty converted by Fara Williams ensured that Arsenal won 3-2 in dramatic fashion.

Off the back of our penultimate pre-season victory in Scandinavia, Arsene Wenger gave us updates on the players who could be fit to face Liverpool on the opening day of the season and reassured as that he is still in the market for new players. He did say later on, however, that he still believe Theo Walcott is a striker, which comes just days after the player said that he wanted to play out wide again.

The boss also stressed the importance of quality not quantity – just because we scored eight goals against a team from the Norwegian League (no offence) doesn’t mean we’re suddenly invincible. We need to concentrate on our style and balance as a team.

Meanwhile, Krystian Bielik spoke again about how much he’s enjoying playing at centre-back, revealed that he’s learning from Per and Kos, and said that he’s ready if Wenger wants to give him a chance.

In opposition watch, Daniel Sturridge has picked up a hip injury. It’s unclear at the moment if he will miss the Arsenal match as it’s said to not be serious but you never know with Sturridge.

Elsewhere, Ryan Huddart and Dan Crowley were left out of Eastleigh and Oxford United’s opening clashes; Xhaka spoke about how lovely everyone at Arsenal is and Wenger waved his sword about.

Gossip-wise, Olympiakos apparently want Mathieu Flamini now that we’ve released him into the wild; Thomas Vermaelen is almost certainly joining Woj at Roma; Isco has been linked to Arsenal, since apparently Real Madrid was to get rid of him and former Gunner, Ozyakup, has reportedly turned down the opportunity to return to us.

We also have updates on the Draxler drama and another Mahrez update because Claudio Ranieri loves to talk.
