Arsenal came from 1-0 down to beat Manchester City 3-1 in their final pre-season match before the Premier League starts.

After a tentative start, Arsenal grew into the game and became the slightly stronger team in the first half. This isn’t to say Manchester City didn’t threaten – we looked pretty vulnerable when they attacked – however, we didn’t let them get forward too often.

A few chances went to waste thanks to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Francis Coquelin and Aaron Ramsey, although the latter did look sharp elsewhere on the pitch.

Despite Arsenal having the better of the chances, it was City who broke the deadlock in the 30th minute through Sergio Aguero via a Raheem Sterling assist. Our defence, as usual, was caught sleeping and the striker never misses. Gabriel was caught out of position and kept leaving 20-year-old Rob Holding to mark Aguero. Not good.

The goal took the wind out of Arsenal’s sails and they slowed down a little, which isn’t a good thing when you’re trailing 1-0, especially as City continued to threaten.

Despite being quiet throughout the game, Alex Iwobi put us level minutes after returning from half-time. Theo Walcott, who was brought on at break, did excellently down the right flank and deservedly got the assist.

After the goal, we seemed a little more confident, although a number of our players still looked uncomfortable on the ball and our defence seemed ropy.

In the 60th minute, Arsenal got a free-kick just outside the area in front of goal. Alexis took is and hit the bar but no one managed to get to the rebound. Then, in the 64th minute, Theo took a shot from out wide, which was tipped around the bar by Joe Hart.

In the 73rd minute, Theo was rewarded for his graft when he scored a beautiful chipped goal over Joe Hart. City had barely got forward since they scored.

Alexis got the assist.

Arsenal continued to dominate before the fresh legged Chuba Akpom scored a lovely goal in the 86th minute. However, minutes later City came back to make the scoreline 3-2 through Iheanacho.

City continued to pressure until the final whistle and Petr Cech was finally called into action more than once but they couldn’t quite find the back of the net.

Worrying, Gabriel looked to be injured after he went in for a challenge in the dying seconds. It looked bad.

3-2. A decent result against tough opposition going into the new season.
