A student was shot dead in Uganda on Sunday evening by police when students attempted to riot after the Arsenal game against Liverpool.

As a group of students got ready to watch the match in their student hall, three seniors allegedly found others sitting in their seats causing a fight to break out which then turned into a riot.

Taking place between 6pm and 7pm local time on the school campus, the police were called and 19 year-old Allan Ntunguka was shot dead on the Rushoroza Hill grounds of St Mary’s college in Kabale town in the western region of the country.

“The school administration called the police to calm the situation because students were rioting and fighting each other,” Elly Maate, police spokesperson for the area, said.

“On arrival, the police shot in the air to disperse and scare them but because the policemen were shooting while in the valley and the rioting students were on raised ground, a stray bullet hit one of the students in the chest and he died moments later after admission at Kabale regional referral hospital.

“It’s an unfortunate incident.”

Unfortunate. Bloody hell.

The situation is said to be back to ‘normal’ in the wake of the tragedy and burial arrangements are being made for the teenager.
