Serge Gnabry’s people have let it be known in Germany that a new contract for the player at Arsenal is ‘just a formality’ after the Olympics as he continues to be linked with a loan move to Hertha Berlin.

Gnabry is set to feature for Germany against Nigeria in their Olympics semi-final tonight (Wednesday), and the manager of Hertha Berlin, Pal Dardai, told Bild, “Serge is a prototype of the player profile that we need. Let’s see what the next few days bring.”

Serge’s contract with Arsenal is up at the end of the season but there seems to be no reason for Arsenal fans to panic. The club have clearly been waiting to see how well he recovered from the knee injury that kept him out for over a year, and with six goals in Rio, making him the highest scorer, I don’t think they have any fears on that front.

Bild claim that Gnabry’s ‘environment’ (his agents etc) believe that a new deal at Arsenal is ‘just a formality’ after his achievements this summer and we have to agree.

While I’d love to watch him in the Premier League, it does seem as if he will be off to the Bundesliga for a season.

Wherever he ends up, I’m sure he’ll get a lot more football this season than he did last when Tony Pulis found himself in front of an actual footballer and didn’t know what to do.
