Between Valencia boss, Pako Ayestaran, saying that Shkrodran Mustafi would not be leaving the La Liga club and Sky Sports saying the player wants to, we decided to give you a nice, neat roundup.

Guillem Balague already warned us that all was not going as smoothly as we’d like by claiming that Valencia wouldn’t settle for anything under the German’s €50m release clause, so when Ayestaran dropped his bombshell, we were semi-prepared.

“The coaching staff at Valencia think Mustafi will not go, and this is the same message being made by Valencia,” Balague said to Sky Sports.

“They insist the only way Mustafi will be allowed to leave is if Arsenal trigger his €50m (£43.1m) buy-out clause, which I think everybody will agree is too much money for him.

“Valencia’s position is such because they don’t think they can find someone to replace him, given the proximity of transfer deadline day. It’s a similar stance to the one they have with Barcelona target Paco Alcacer, or at least that’s the message they are giving out.

“So, as things stand, neither Mustafi nor Alcacer will be leaving Valencia. I heard Arsene Wenger confirm publicly that Arsenal were in negotiations for Mustafi. That’s very rare for him to do so. Perhaps he is trying to apply some pressure on Valencia to sell.”

Initially people were angry, some refused to believe what the manager was saying, which is perfectly within their right to do, and since, Sky Sports reporter, Marc Behrenbeck, has claimed that Mustafi wants the move. It’s apparently Valencia who are being the sticks in the mud.

The English media are also reporting that Arsenal’s director of football, Dick Law, is out in Spain trying to smooth things over with Valencia.

Other Twitter-based sources are claiming that the Gunners are looking at alternatives in case Valencia still won’t sell.

Everything seems so up in the air at the moment that I don’t know what to think. My personal opinion is that there seems as if there’s more to this than meets the eye but I could be wrong.
