Mesut Ozil reckons that Manchester United and Manchester City will do well next season, with the playmaker being particularly impressed by Pep Guardiola’s new signings.

Germany internationals, Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan, have both signed for City recently, something that Ozil claims will improve the Premier League.

“Manchester United and Manchester City are among the biggest clubs in England and will be very strong in the coming season,” he said to German media outlet, Spox.

“I am particularly pleased at City, where two of my team-mates from the German team, Leroy Sane and Ilkay Gundogan, are playing. They both bring a great quality and the Premier League will be even better for it.

“All the clubs have invested heavily, not only on world-class players, but also on world-class coaches who have been brought into the league.”

To be fair, what Ozil says is true. United and City are among the biggest clubs in England, there’s no denying it. They’ve also both strengthened in the areas they need to and hired new, world class (I used that term loosely when it comes to Jose Mourinho) managers. The Premier League as a whole has got very, very exciting and the quality is continuing to rise.

Is Ozil’s admission that he’s impressed with City’s signings a way of prodding Arsene Wenger to spend? I don’t think so, it’s not that deep in my opinion. All he was doing is showing support for two of his compatriots in his characteristically respectful way.
