Arsenal may just have been handed a massive boost after Lyon’s manager, Bruno Genesio, reportedly said there are some offers that a club can’t refuse and that Alexandre Lacazette could leave.

He then seemed to snatch it away by saying his president had assured him that the player would stay, but we all know presidents. They lie as much as anyone else in football.

With Arsenal reportedly already having one bid for the striker turned down, the internet thinks they will go back for a second bite at the cherry and the club will no doubt be aware that there is a price at which Lyon will say ‘oui!’ – they just have to find it.

“He can leave if Lyon want him to. There are some offers that you cannot refuse,” Genesio told RTL.

“My desire as manager is that the best players stay and Lacazette is very important for the team. I have been assured by my president that we will keep the player.

“You never know what could happen right up until the 31st August.”

There are very few big-name strikers left out there that are at an age and in a price bracket Arsene Wenger would be happy paying. Lacazette is one of them.

This one seems set to bubble right until the deadline as the clubs play chicken and the player tries to get his move.

Lyon are reportedly preparing a massive contract offer to try and tempt him to staying.

“It is my desire to reach an agreement that allows him to understand that he is one of our best assets, if not the best,” president Jean Michel Aulas told Le Progress.

“That will be reflected in what we will propose before the start of the championship.”

Ligue 1 starts on 12th August with the Trophée des Champions, in which Lyon will play PSG, taking place the week before.

Lyon face AS Nancy, away, in their first game of the new season.
