Leicester City have reportedly made a £23m bid for Santos winger, Gabriel Barbosa.

The 19-year-old, nicknamed ‘Gabigol’ for obvious reasons (he scores a lot) is rumoured to be joining the Foxes after he recently hinted that he’d played his last game for Santos.

Arsenal were linked with the Brazilian a while ago but nothing ever came of it. Now, our Premier League rivals are apparently keen. However, what’s interesting about this story isn’t the fact that we were linked and now Leicester might want him but that he could be seen as Riyad Mahrez’s replacement.

Although the chances of Mahrez coming to north London are pretty slim as Leicester are tring their best to keep hold of their player of the season, it does appear that the Foxes are in the market for a similar player in his position. Gabigol would be an excellent signing for the club as he’s definitely talented and has massive sell-on value if he continues to perform.

Does this actually mean he’s going to Leicester and, in turn, Mahrez will come to Arsenal? I’m not holding out much hope but, as they say, it’s the hope that kills you.
