If you think Arsenal are having a bad time of it at the minute with injuries, you might be relieved to know that they are not alone.

After losing James Milner this weekend, Sheyi Ojo, has joined Liverpool’s growing list of players in their treatment room.

The exciting winger is out with a back problem and missed Jurgen Klopp’s 4-0 defeat at the hands of his old side, Mainz 05.

Although the problem is not thought to be serious after he complained of ‘discomfort,,’ at Arsenal we know how tricky back problems can be and how long they can sometimes take to clear up.

Liverpool are also currently without Loris Karis, Mamadou Sakho, Joe Gomez and Lucas Leiva.

Milner picked up a heel injury this weekend against Barcelona while Daniel Sturridge is, well, Daniel Sturridge. His latest problem is said to be his hip, and along with his fellow Englishman, both are doubts for the season opener

Arsenal, meanwhile, will certainly be without Per Mertesacker and Gabriel while doubts still hang over Jack Wilshere and his current ‘minor’ knee problem.

Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny will not be available as they continue to relax after the Euros.

If you ask me, in tournament years, it seems like a good idea to start the season with the Capital One Cup. We could have it played and won by September when everyone’s important players are actually fit and sides won’t have been punished for having players who do well at international level.

Just a thought. A stupid one, I realise.

But a thought nonetheless.
