Despite signing a new deal this summer, rumours linking Arsenal with a move for Antoine Griezmann started to surface this week.

The source, it seems, was Italian journalist, Emanuele Giulianelli, whom we often see referred to as ‘respected’ although we’ve yet to find any evidence of that, especially not when it comes to Arsenal at least.

Speaking to the France Football, Eric Olhats, Griezmann’s agent, said “Antoine extended his contract with pleasure.

“At no point was this club a back-up plan.

“Teams from abroad did however call on him during the close season. In England, there were several direct expressions of interest, but a lot of clubs are under reconstruction.

“There were also meetings with Paris Saint-Germain. The project was very attractive, but he’s just become a father, he feels good in Spain and Atletico is, I repeat, a great club that gives him everything he expects and which is managed by a great coach.”

This has been spun by some as confirmation that Arsenal were interested in signing him and, according to others, were prepared to stump up a club record fee to do so.

What do we say about people who claim they know what Arsenal’s intentions are?

Anyway, the only club named is PSG.

As for the others in England, we can take ‘under construction’ to mean Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool. That, of course, does not rule Arsenal out and they could well have been interested – he’s an amazing player after all – but there is simply no confirmation here at all.
