Granit Xhaka is looking forward to facing his brother, Taulant, when Arsenal face Basel in the Champions League.

Granit last faced his older brother when Switzerland played Albania in the Euros. At the time, the midfielder described playing against his sibling as ‘special’ for his family and now that we’ve been drawn against Basel in the Champions League, he’s even more excited, considering it’s him former team.

Granit spent eight years (2002-2010) of his youth career at the Swiss club and two more as an adult before joining Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012. It’s therefore understandable that he has strong emotional ties to the club that don’t just involve Taulant.

Saying this, playing against his brother again is also something he’s excited about.

Granit took to his official Facebook page to talk about the draw.

“What should I say about this [Champions League] draw,” he said.

“After playing against my own blood Taulant Xhaka in Euro 2016, we will probably face each other again in the [Champions League]. It’s even more special to me that this will be in Basel against my former club. But I hope we will both make it to the [Champions League] round of last 16!”

Arsenal play Basel at the Emirates on 28th September before traveling to St Jakob-Park on 6th December.
